Hi Reader, I hope 2024 is off to a good start for you. I recently returned from a 3 month trip to India. 2 months of that I was at my Guru's ashram involved in various meditation practices. 40 days of that I was in silence. Overall it was transformational and peaceful. In the the summer of 2023 I had the pleasure to record more music with the Northern Film Orchestra. As part of this experience I had the music mastered at AIR Studios which was a real treat for me as many of my favorite film scores have been recorded there. Here are some photos from the recording session at Stoller Hall and the mastering session at AIR: https://ericturnnessen.com/orchestra-sessions-gold-photos/ Snow-Covered Earth I wrote this piece on a snowy morning in December. I was looking out over a landscape covered by freshly fallen snow. I imagined horse-drawn carriages, ice crystals hanging from rooftops and snow flakes dancing in the wind. I aimed to paint a picture using different instruments such as sleigh bells, wood block and glockenspiel and to compose lines for instruments that evoked snowflakes in the wind or horses trotting along. Spring Bloom (Semi-Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition) I originally wrote this piece to accompany a clip from the "Seasonal Forests" episode of BBC's Planet Earth series. The clip tracks changes in nature from Winter to Spring to Fall. In the music I attempted to use different textures, instrumentation and energy to support what was happening on screen. I submitted all 3 pieces to the International Songwriting Competition and this one was selected as a semi-finalist which represents being in the top 15% of submissions. Winners are still yet to be announced, but it feels good to be recognized in this way. Eskimo Bob Overture This piece was inspired by a web cartoon I was watching in college called Eskimo Bob. I thought it would be a fun project to take the theme song from the show and transform it into an orchestral piece. After I completed the piece I shared it with the creators of the show and they were inspired to create a whole show around the piece. Relaxing Album Release In September 2023 I released an album entitled "Relaxing" and as the name suggests is a collection of more meditative and peaceful music. You can find links to that album on Spotify and Apple Music here: https://ericturnnessen.com/relaxing-album/ "I Choose Love" Meditation This meditation is about the power of presence, choosing love and being with the breath as a gateway to peace. All the best, Eric https://ericturnnessen.com |

This year I wasn't with my family, and I found myself missing a simple tradition — my uncle playing guitar while we all sing Christmas carols together around the tree. On a whim, I suggested we pull up a Christmas carol karaoke video and sing one before bed. We did… and then another. Something in the room softened. The festive...
